You want to travel a bit further away from home? The States and the Caribbean offer endless possibilities. Below is an overview of my favorites.
Miami
If you want to go to North America and enjoy some nice weather, you most likely end up in Miami. Miami itself is a bit overrated (according to me) but there are some nice things to do in the area. The Keys are wonderful (Note January 2018: totally destroyed in 2017 by hurrican Irma. Key West is rebuild, but alongside the route to it, there is still much work to do) . I has a cosy atmosphere and brightly colored houses. The Everglades are also worth a visit. A trip on an airboat is fun for young and old. You are looking for something more exclusive, then Naples should be your destination.
Make your kids happy and go to Florida, The Sunshine State. In Orlando you can visit the Disney Parks, Seaworld, Kennedy Space Center, etc.
Leeward Antilles
The Leeward Antilles are a chain of carribean islands, called Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. They speak Dutch on these islands. If you want to enjoy the beach, these are perfect destinations. Sun-secure, good food and a cozy atmosphere. However, there is no that much to do. Read more about our trip to Curaçao.
Cuba
The high season runs from December to April. The temperature then goes up to 30 degrees. We traveled to Cuba at the end of February. Read all about it in the following blogposts.
Jamaica
are you a fan of reggae and Bob Marley, then you have to go to Jamaica. The temperature is great and the tropical interior is overwhelmingly beautiful. There is a very special atmosphere. You can’t compare it with any other destinations. We visited the island a day during a cruise and immediately decided that we want to see more.
Mexico
fans of the Mayan culture can enjoy themselves here. Tulum and Chichen Itza are some wonderful examples of Mayan sites. For a real beach holiday you have to be in Playa del Carmen. White sandy beaches, culture, good food and perfect weather, all in one destination.
Argentina
In South America , Argentina is waiting for you. Very high on my bucket list! The land of the tango has beautiful nature, delicious food and superb wines. What are you waiting for?
Ecuador
The best time to travel to Ecuador is from June to September. However, if you want to go to the Galapagos, it is best to travel between February and April. The Galapagos Islands have a unique fauna and flora. Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution was written after a visit to this archipelago. This one is almost on top of my bucketlist.
